Blackberry Dumplings


2 cups blackberries    1/2 cup milk
1 cup sugar            2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup water
1 and 1/2 cups flour

1 tablespoon sugar     1/2 teaspoon salt

Put berries, sugar and one-half the water into sauce pan to boil. Sift flour, salt, sugar and baking powder together and add milk gradually, beat until smooth. Add the remaining cold water to boiling berries and immediately drop in the dumplings, using a tablespoon. Cover closely and cook for twelve or fifteen minutes according to the size of the dumplings. If kept covered it is not necessary to turn the dumplings and they are much lighter. Serve with cream
