chocolate nut cake




1/2 cup shortening       1/4 teaspoon soda
1 cup sugar              1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup buttermilk
I/4 cups flour I
1/2 cup nuts             1/2 teaspoon salt
2 squares chocolate (melted)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla     2 eggs

Cream shortening, add two-thirds of the sugar gradually; add remaining sugar to the unbeaten yolks of eggs and beat until light. Combine mixtures, then add chocolate. Sift the flour, baking powder, salt, and soda together and add alternating with the milk. Add vanilla and fold in well-beaten egg whites. Bake at 350 degrees.
